Oklahoma ELA Standards: What Are Multimodal Literacies?

If you’ve had a chance to look over the Oklahoma ELA standards, you’ll see that Standard #7 is Multimodal Literacies. You may not what this means if you’ve just graduated with a degree in education. But if it’s been a few years, or you’re alternatively certified, you may need to read the article below.

For the record, here are a few other terms you may need to familiarize yourself with in reading the aforementioned resource

  • Modality: a particular mode in which something exists or is experienced or expressed
  • Semiotics: the study of signs and symbols and their use or interpretation.
  • Somatic: of or relating to the body, especially as distinct from the mind
