Final Day Of #SOL15: Making Changes, Making Progress

#sol15

This year is coming to a close so fast, I think I’m getting whiplash.

It seems like just yesterday, I was starting out at a new school, meeting new students, learning new teacher names, figuring out where the ice machine is.

Now, I’m trying to keep up with my grading, planning to attend an Oklahoma Council of Teachers of English spring conference, the Oklahoma Scholastic Media conference, and is that the testing train I hear?

The next thing I know, it will be May!

That said, I am planning an awesome (If I do say so myself!) unit for National Poetry Month this April. While the students are stressing over tests, they’ll be playing with poetry in my classroom. Perhaps this will help them de-stress a little.

You can see the materials I plan to use here and here.

Naturally, as we prepare for tests, and for learning about poetry, we need to work together in groups. So my kids and I took some time after the #OklaEdRally today to rearrange my classroom:

Naturally, I had to play with the posterize feature in Photoshop…

  1. Love your plans for April and poetry month! Heaven knows we can all use a little play to distract us from the testing train. I was always sad because our spring break in April meant one less week to play with poetry. Enjoy your time at OCTE. I went to my first NCTE this past year (after I retired). Hope to see you on Tuesdays so you can share the learning from your upcoming events.

  2. It’s a sharp but natural segue from March slicing to April poetry. I’m retired but have a poetry blog and Facebook page that get more attention in April.
